Mission

The mission of the Temple Hills Fresh Start, Inc. (THFS) is to provide our clients a supportive transitional home for homeless women.

Vision

Temple Hills Fresh Start focuses on the whole person: the body, mind, and spirit. We strive to create a safe environment where women can transform their lives and heal relationships, and in some cases, reunite with their children.

History

The idea for Temple Hills Fresh Start, Inc. was born in 1999 by several individuals whose hearts went out to those who were distressed with no home or support network.

In 2001, the doors opened for single room occupancy (SRO) housing for individuals experiencing homelessness. The facility provided temporary transitional housing for homeless women. The residents had individual rooms and share common areas. The temporary housing located in Temple Hills, MD would move from SRO to transitional housing.

By 2020, this group officially formed a nonprofit where women experiencing homelessness could have a chance at a ‘fresh start.’ To date, twenty (20) formerly homeless individuals have gained their independence into permanent housing.

About Us

We are dedicated to breaking the cycle of homelessness for those we serve by providing temporary transitional housing (6 weeks – 24 months) and supportive services to enable residents to achieve and sustain social and financial stability in the DMV metropolitan area.

The Temple Hills Fresh Start, Inc. (THFS) serves homeless and low-income individuals, primarily women, through transitional housing.

THFS and its partners also offer case management, financial counseling, and life skills training. We tailor services to the needs, situations, and goals of each individual.

Our home is in a nice safe neighborhood and, we have rooms fully furnished.  When the resident(s) transition to independent living, they take their bedding with them to help foster a ‘fresh start’.  Residents have access to a landline phone that includes long distance and a computer and computer area for job searching.  We also have Wi-Fi to those who have laptops that is free for all residents.

Additionally, we operate a food pantry within the community which also gives volunteer opportunities for the residents.
